This is a cordial invite to please join us on Wednesday 11th September, as we are proud to have Dr Michael Njovu [BSc (Human Biology), MBChB, MRCP, DCH Diploma in Cardiology, FAFRM], Rehabilitation Medicine Physician) & Mr Christopher Thien [MBBS (Hons), FRACS, Neurosurgeon) present a Case-Based Discussion on NPH (normal pressure hydrocephalus).
Dr Michael Njovu is a specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine and he has an interest in the management of patient with stroke and other neurological conditions. He is particularly interested in the assessment and management of patients with spasticity, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and patients suspected of having normal pressure hydrocephalus. Dr Njovu has also trained, both here and in the USA, in musculoskeletal ultrasound for localisation of appropriate injection sites for patients that are suitable for treatment with Botulinum Neuro-toxin A. Dr Njovu is an accredited injector under Section 100 PBS, Botulinum Toxin Program. He is also a Workcover and TAC Impairment Assessor. He is proficient in intra-articular steroid injection for joints in the upper and lower limbs and he has trained in the management of intra-thecal Baclofen and Morphine.
Mr Christopher Thien completed his neurosurgery training in 1995. Further specialist training was undertaken via a fellowship in epilepsy surgery at the University of Washington, USA from 1996–97. Mr Thien returned to Melbourne to commence practice as a consultant neurosurgeon in 1997. He manages all neurosurgical conditions, both cranial and spinal. He has a special interest in neurovascular surgery as well as intracranial tumours and epilepsy. Through his appointment at St Vincent’s Hospital, Mr Thien is actively involved in the under-graduate teaching of medical students and the post-graduate training of neurosurgical residents and registrars.
